One of the themes that came out of the exchange was that both he and I have been lucky to be born in a Matrilineal society, where women of yesteryears had a lot more freedom and sense of security than their counterparts in many other communities. To our knowledge, the Matrilineal system exists in Kerala, Bengal, and Assam. Perhaps it exists in a different form elsewhere as well - would be happy to know if someone is aware. Yet there is a long way to go even in Kerala - but we sure are moving fast in the right direction.Damunoreply@blogger.com
